Unwind: January's Book Discussion Selection


Our next book discussion will be Saturday, January 8th at 3:00 in the Library's small meeting room. Join us for a lively discussion of Unwind by Neal Shusterman. Please read the book before attending. All attendees will be able to select a book for their personal collection just for attending.

Get Fit: Snacks and Exercise


Start the new year right with healthy eating and exercise. Come to the Library's community room on Saturday, January 8th from 2:30-4:00 for this fun and tasty workshoop. We will be making fresh fruit tostadas and smoothies during this workshop. After eating our healthy snacks, we will be ready for some friendly competition as we play a variety of Wii sports games.

Hunger Games Book Discussion


Saturday, November 20th from 3:00-4:00 the teen book discussion group will be discussing Hunger Games. Please read the book before attending and join us for a lively discussion and refreshments.
Those in attendance will be entered in a drawing to win Catching Fire and Mockingjay in the Hunger Games trilogy.

National Gaming Day


Join us Saturday, November 13th from 2:30-4:00 as we celebrate National Gaming Day. All ages are welcome to participate. There will ba a variety of board, video and table games to play with family and friends. Some of the games available include XBox's Halo, Wii's Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Monopoly Deal, and UNO.

Games With Beat


On Saturday, October 23rd from 2:30-4:00, you can experience Games With Beat in the Library's downstairs auditorium. You will engage in a variety of music related video games that include Rockband, Guitar Hero, Dance Dance Revolution, and Karaoke.

College Essay Writing Workshop


On Tuesday, October 19th from 6:00-7:30, there will be a college essay writing workshop presented by Kaplan in the Library's downstairs auditorium. Learn how to write an essay that stands out whether it is for a college entrance application, SATs, or class assignment.

Teen Read Events


During the entire month of October you can sign up and participate in the library’s online reading program. When you read at least one book and write a review on the book, you will be entered into a drawing for a special prize. To sign-up just go to the library’s website at www.buenaparklibrary.org and click on the Books With Beat logo.

The library will be holding two special events the week of Teen Read Week. On Tuesday, October 19th from 6:00-7:30, there will be a college essay writing workshop presented by Kaplan. Elsewhere by Garielle Zavin: Teen Book Group Selection for September


The Teen Book Discussion Group will be discussing Elsewhere by Gabrielle Zavin on September 25th at 3:00 in the Library's small meeting room located in the downstairs auditorium. New attendees are always welcome. Please read the book before the meeting.

Free Practice SAT/ACT Combo Test


The Library will be hosting a free practice ACT/SAT combo test on Saturday, August 28th from 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. This practice test is perfect for those who are trying to decide whether to take the ACT or the SAT test. This combo test includes a condensed version of both the SAT and ACT. High School age students are welcome to participate. Registration is required for this event. You can register in person at the Information and Reference desk at the Library or by calling 714-826-4100 ext.125. Participating students need to bring a calculator and two #2 pencils to the practice test.
For all participating students and their parents, there will be a combo test results and ACT & SAT Workshop on September 1st from 6:30-7:30 p.m.

After-Hours Amazing Race


You are invited to participate in the Library‘s fifth annual After-Hours Amazing Race on Saturday, August 14th from 5:30-8:30 p.m. You will compete in teams of two or three as you complete a competitive relay race performing tasks in order to receive clues that will ultimately lead you to the finish line.

Bunco Tournament on Tuesday August 10th


The Library will be holding a Bunco tournament on Tuesday, August 10th from 6:30-745p.m. This is a simple fast-paced game of chance which requires no prior knowledge of the game. Participants will roll the dice looking for the winning combination needed to shout “Bunco!” Prizes will be awarded to tournament winners.

MONOPOLY Deal Tournament


The Library will be having a MONOPOLY® Deal tournament on Saturday, August 7th from 2:30-4:00 p.m. in the Library’s community room. Teens will wheel and deal their way to the top as they compete to become this year’s MONOPOLY® champion. A prize will be awarded to the tournament winner.

Rayman Tournament


On Tuesday, August 3rd there will be a Wii Rayman Raving Rabbids tournament from 6:30-7:45 p.m. in the Library’s community room. The fun will come at a fast and furious pace as you battle one another during the various mini games including playing instruments in a rock band or showing your dance moves, all while using only the Wii remote and nunchuck. There will be a prize for the winning team.

On Saturday, July 31st from 2:30-4:00 p.m. there will be a Super Smash Bros. Brawl Tournament in the Library’s community room. You will pit your favorite Smash Bros. character against other teen players in this head-to-head double elimination tournament. A prize will be awarded to the tournament winner.

Compete one-on-one and in teams during Wii’s Boom Blox Bash Party Tournament on Tuesday, July 27th from 6:30-7:45 p.m. in the Library’s community room. You will take destruction to a new level as you blast, bash, shoot, topple, and pull blocks in this ultimate puzzle game. Prizes will be awarded to the winning team.

Get ready to rock! There will be a Guitar Hero III Tournament for on Friday, July 23rd from 2:30-4:00 p.m. in the Library’s community room. Guitarists will battle head-to-head for the title of best guitarist. Besides bragging rights, there will be a prize awarded to the winning guitarists.

Teen and Adult Book Discussion Group Meet to Discuss The Secret Between Us


The teen and adult book disussion groups will meet together on Thursday, July 22nd at 1:00 in the Library's downstairs meeting room to discuss The Secret Between Us by Barbara Delinsky. The book is about a mother and daughter relationship and the effect a lie has on the bond between them. This intergenerational discussion will be very enlightening.

Anime Club Meets July 20th


The Library's Anime Club will be meeting Tuesday, July 20th at 6:30 in the auditorium. This month we will be viewing Comic Party. Come and join other anime fans for this month's feature anime and refreshments like candy sushi.

Learn to Knit


Learn to knit on Friday, July 16th from 2:30-4:00 p.m. in the Library’s Community room. You will learn the basics of knitting as you make and complete a wristlet. Wii Mini Game Extravaganza


Compete one-on-one and in teams in the Wii Mini Games Extravaganza on Tuesday, July 13th from 6:30-7:45 p.m. in the Library’s community room. You will play a variety of mini games from Wii’s Mario Party and Toy Story Mania. Participants will water ski over jumps, steer race cars, smash plates, and pop balloons while all using just the Wii remote. Prizes will be awarded.

Wii Summer Olympic Events


Compete one-on-one and in teams in the Wii Summer Olympic event at the library on Tuesday, July 6th from 6:30-7:45 p.m. in the community room. You will be able to participate in such Olympic events as track and field, swimming and gymnastics. You will compete against one another for prizes as you race down the track, leap over the high jump or churn up the water in swimming.

UNO Tournament


There will be a UNO tournament on Tuesday, June 29th from 6:30-7:45 p.m. in the Library’s community room. This fast-paced card game is easy to learn. A prize will be awarded to the first person to reach 500 points.

Test your “driving” skills against other teens as you compete against one another in Wii’s Mario Kart on Friday, June 25th from 2:30-4:00 p.m. in the Library’s community room. A prize will be awarded to the top “race” driver.

Karaoke Competition

Do you have what it takes to be the next Buena Park Library’s singing sensation? Find out at the Library’s second annual Karaoke Revolution: American Idol Encore Competition on Tuesday, June 22nd from 6:30-7:45 p.m. in the Library’s community room. Teens can compete solo or as a duet as they sing their way to stardom and compete to win the title of Buena Park Library’s American Idol.

Make Waves--READ


Sign-ups for the Teen Summer Reading Club begin June 18th with a kick-off celebration from 2:30-4:00 p.m. that will include Wii and board games, food and door prizes.

College 101


The Orange County Dream Team is a group of current college students and recent college graduates. They will be at the Library on Saturday, March 20th at 2:00 p.m. to discuss their college experiences and provide motivation to high school students considering college. They will provide answers to such common questions as: Why go to college?, How to get into college? And What happens one in college? This program is one in a series of programs aimed at helping students complete high school and prepare for college or the workforce and was made possible through a generous grant from AT&T foundation.

Resume Writing and Job Interviewin Skills Workshop


On Saturday, March 6th, at 2:00 American First Credit Union will be conducting a free workshop on resume writing and job interviewing skills. This practical workshop will give you the skills and information you need to help land your first job. This program is one in a series of programs aimed at helping students complete high school and prepare for college or the workforce and was made possible through a generous grant from AT&T foundation.

Recyclable Crafts Workshop



Go Green at the Library on Saturday, February 27th from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and participate in the Recyclable Craft Workshop. Learn how to make fashionable jewerly by first creating handmade paper beads. Beads will be used to create bracelets. Or make a useful wallet out of duct tape. All supplies needed for the workshop will be available at the Library.
