Free Practice SAT Test September 15
Kaplan is sponsoring a free practice SAT at the Buena Park Library on Saturday, September 15th from 9:00 a.m.-1:30 p.m. High School age students will have the opportunity to take a full-length SAT test under realistic testing conditions without affecting their college record. Registration is required for this event.You can register in person at the Information and Reference desk at the Library or by calling
714-826-4100 ext.125. Participating students need to bring a basic calculator and two #2 pencils to the practice test.
For all participating students and their parents, there will be a SAT scoreback and SAT Test Strategies 101 Workshop on Tuesdday, September 25th from 6:30-7:30 p.m.

After-Hours Amazing Race
Teens are invited to participate in the Library‘s sixth annual After-Hours Amazing Race on Saturday, August 4th from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Teens will compete in teams of two or three as they complete a competitive relay race performing tasks in order to receive clues that will ultimately lead them to the finish line.
Space is limited, so teens must pre-register at the Information Desk in the Library or calling 714-826-4100 ext.125.
Minute-to-Win-It Challenge
Tackle 60-second unique challenges using items found around the house in the Library’s Minute-to-Win-It Competition on Tuesday, July 31st from 6:30-7:45 p.m. Do you have what it takes to complete the challenges and prove you’ve got what it takes to win it in a minute? There will be a prize for the competition’s winner.

Team Style Jeopardy
Teens, you can match your knowledge against other teams as they put your heads together to come up with the question when given the answer at the Library’s Team Jeopardy Challenge on Saturday, July 28th from 2:30-4:00 p.m. There will be a prize for the winning team.

Mario Kart Tournament
Teens, test your “driving” skills against other teens as you compete against one another in Wii’s Mario Kart on Tuesday, July 24th from 6:30-7:45 p.m. in the Library’s community room. A prize will be awarded to the top “race” driver.

Monopoly Tournament for Teens
The Library will be having a MONOPOLY® tournament on Saturday, July 21st from 2:30-4:00 p.m. in the Library’s community room. Teens will wheel and deal their way to the top as they compete to become this year’s MONOPOLY® champion. A prize will be awarded to the tournament winner.
Wii Summer Olympics
Teens, you can compete one-on-one and in teams in the Wii Summer Olympic event at the Library on Tuesday, July 17th from 6:30-7:45 p.m. in the Library’s community room. You will be able to participate in such Olympic events as track and field, swimming and gymnastics. You will compete against one another for prizes as you race down the track, leap over the high jump or churn up the water in swimming. Prizes will be given to the first place team.

Hunger Games Tournament
Teens, do you have what it takes to survive the Hunger Games? Find out by competing in our Hunger Games Tournament on Saturday, July 14th from 2:30-4:00 p.m. There will be a cornucopia challenge, an archery contest, and trivia challenge. Teens will even be able to make their own mockingjay necklace.
Pictionary Challenge
Teens will divide into teams for the Library’s Pictionary Challenge on Tuesday, July 10th from 6:30-7:45 p.m. Each team will draw clues describing a secret word or phrase before time runs out. The team with the most correct guesses will win a prize.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl Tournament July 7th
On Saturday, July 7th from 2:30-4:00 p.m. there will be a Super Smash Bros. Brawl Tournament in the Library’s community room. You will pit their favorite Smash Bros. character against other teen players in this head-to-head double elimination tournament. A prize will be awarded to the tournament winner.
Scattergories Competition July 3rd
You can play the classic fast-thinking categories game, Scattergories on Tuesday, July 3rd from 6:30-7:45 p.m. in the Library’s community room. Points are awarded to players with unique words that do not match any one else in the competition. A prize will be awarded to the person with the highest score.

Summer Reading Club for Teens Has Started
Attention teens ages 13 through 17. You can participate in Own the Night, the summer reading program especially for you that includes reading, prizes, a Hunger Games Tournament, and our annual After-Hours Amazing Race. You will have a chance to join the fun in a variety of video and board game tournaments on Tuesday evenings and Saturday afternoons, including our first Hunger Games Tournament on July 14th, complete with a cornucopia competition, archery contest, Jeopardy style trivia, and the creation of your own mockingjay necklace. You will also be able to participate in our 6th annual After-Hours Amazing Race on August 4, 2012.
For every 300 pages you read, you complete a level and earn prizes. Once you have read 1200 pages, you are eligible for one of the grand prizes--a Kindle, IPod Touch, or 2 tickets to Magic Mountain. Read another 1200 pages (for a total of 2400 pages) and you receive four more tickets for the grand prize drawing to be held at the end of the summer program.
The reading club continues through August 4th, with the last day to pick up prizes on August 11, 2012.

Free Practice SAT Test April 14th
See how you'll score without affecting your college record. Take a full-length SAT test under realistic test conditions on Saturday, April 14, 2012 from 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. This practice test is for high school students only. Pre-register at the Library's Information/Reference Desk, by calling the Library at 714-826-4100 ext. 125 or online at www.kaptest.com. Please bring two #2 pencils and a calculator. This event is sponsored by Kaplan.
On Thursday, April 26th at 6:00 come back to the library for your score report. There will be a Kaplan representative to explain your score and teach test taking strategies to help you improve your SAT score.
